ENTER AND WORK IN CONFINED SPACE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The aim of this course covers the entering and working in confined spaces. It includes planning and preparing for entry of confined spaces, entry and working in confined spaces, exiting confined spaces and cleaning up.  This unit specifies the competency required to work in a confined space (enclosed or partially enclosed) for the purpose of carrying out work or inspections. It includes the minimum criteria for competency assessment.

Award Issued
On successful completion of the theory component and practical assessment students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the following unit.

Learning Strategies
This course is broken into two (2) parts:

Part 1: Theory

  • A one (1) day trainer led session, will take  students through a power point and assessment workbook, this includes:group discussions, case studies, exercises.
  • The assessment is open book and will be completed gradually in stages as the day progresses. A 100% pass mark is required. Two (2) attempts at the theory component are permitted; trainer assistance is available for a second attempt.

You will learn how to:

  • plan and prepare for entering & working in confined spaces
  • risk assessments
  • entry permits
  • clean up
  • gas detection
  • equipment inspection
  • enter & work in the confined spaces
  • exit confined space

Part 2: Practical
Students will complete the practical component entering confined spaces, complete SWMS, risk assessments, for final assessment.

  • English reading, writing and speaking
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
