AfPA requirement to complete the renewal program every three (3) years.

Entry Requirements

  • An RTO issued previous Statement of Attainment (SOA) listing the Safely handle bituminous materials competency that is less that 4 years or lists RIICBS203D/E
  • Currency of Industry Practice
  • Timesheets, work diaries or a letter from your employer testimonial

Designed by industry to meet the Austroads guidelines, this competency based course is required to protect the health and safety of workers, reduce the risk of injury and highlight your safety responsibilities.

Scope

The course provides essential instruction on safety for ALL personnel involved in storing, handling, working near, or supervising the use of, hot bituminous materials and asphalt.  The course consists of formal presentations, highlight videos of hazards, guidance and selection on the correct use of fire extinguishers. Covers risk minimisation strategies for common hazards present on bituminous surfacing sites including burns, boil overs, explosions, fire, inhalation of fumes and reversing plant.

Who should do this course?
Anyone working within the proximity of hot bitumen or asphalt and requiring proof of the industry approved AfPA endorsed course being completed.
Sealing and asphalt crews, tanker drivers and bitumen storage site operators, supervisors, managers, contractors on a site or plant and non-field staff involved in directing others to use bitumen products.

Program Delivery and Duration
This assessment is an online refresher course involving knowledge questions.

You will have 30 days from the date of your course enrolment to complete the renewal.

Program Outcomes
On successful completion of the program and the submission of verified entry requirements evidence, participants will be awarded the following:

  1. Certificate of Currency for the unit of competency RIICBS203E Safely handle bituminous materials
